What is the best time of day to take outdoor pictures of items you are selling on cars.com?

I am taking pictures of vehicles and the glare from the sun makes the photos seem imperfect for me to post online. Is there a good time of day to get the lighting I need?

Seek out a location where either the early morning or late afternoon sun will bathe the vehicle in the warm, flattering light of this time of day. You will, of course, stand with the sun at your back, but be very careful and look closely that your own shadow is not in the photo or obscuring part of the vehicle. Sometimes you have to stand at either end of the vehicle and shoot at an angle. It can also be a good idea to use a tripod so you can use a small aperture, such as f18 so you can have the entire vehicle in focus. This can mean a slower shutter speed, thus the need for the tripod.

Try to find a location that does not have lots of ugly clutter in the background. Even just a wooden fence can look great. By using the small aperture you are not going to have a blurred background, so you have to try to have as decent a looking background as possible.

In searching your location you will have to know if the vehicle is going to be lit by morning or evening light. If you are not a “morning person” you may have to find another location that gives you the light you need in the late afternoon.

Shooting around high noon is NEVER the ideal time to shoot in the sun. Can’t believe someone gave you that “advice”.
